Are You Using the Right Type of Contact Lens Solution?

Not all contact lens solutions are the same! That’s right. Many patients don’t know this important piece of information (or at least have forgotten it). Solutions may be bought because of loyalty to a particular brand name, or price. But, neither of these reasons are the most optimal way of picking the right contact lens solution.

Get The Right Combination

Are your contacts irritating you? It might have something to do with your contact lens solution. Although solutions are not deemed to be dangerous themselves, when used in the wrong combination with lenses they can pose risks to your eye health. For example, wearers can be susceptible to developing corneal ulcers. Yikes! It’s for this reason that it’s so important to frequently clean and take care of your contacts.

Trying to save a few bucks by buying solution brands made by big box stores could be expensive on your eye health! This is because these brands have shown to be less compatible with contact lenses. In other words, always choose quality over quantity when it comes to your eyes.

How Do I Choose The Right Contact Solution?

The best way to ensure you are using the right solution is to have a discussion with your family eye doctor. There are many different types of contacts on the market today. Initially, at your contact lens fitting your Doctor of Optometry would have fit you with the correct type of lenses for your eyes. You would have also been given information about the best solution(s) to use with the particular contact lens brand. If you think you are not using the right solution it’s best to book a follow up with your optometrist.

It’s important to always remember that contact lenses are a medical device. They require proper care and users should be educated on how to appropriately wear them. We ensure this through a contact lens fit and teach.
